The tax nobody sees you paying
Two ways to say the exact same thing: "no fronting" and "do not pretend." One is publishable in a formal paper. The other isn't -- not because it's less true, but because of who it signals to. Moving between those two registers, correctly, every day, is real, measurable work -- and the data says more education doesn't reduce how often someone has to do it. It increases it.
