Cross-referencing this site's own company graph, the DMV has less than half Silicon Valley's venture density — 24 percent of DMV companies on file are investors or VC firms, against 52 percent in the Bay Area. What fills the rest of the DMV's graph instead — defense primes, think tanks, civil society groups, regional authorities, and the CIA-created In-Q-Tel — doesn't have a Silicon Valley equivalent. The region isn't a smaller version of the Valley. It's a different kind of capital ecosystem entirely.
