Wyoming splits its identity between the state's oldest image and its newest industry. Cheyenne is the governmental and regulatory anchor for a real, deliberate bet: the state legislature passed roughly 50 laws clearing the way for blockchain innovation, and Kraken, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world, relocated its formal home there in response -- alongside Octopus Network, a real multichain crypto infrastructure company already operating in the city. Wyoming raised $85 million across 28 deals in 2025, nearly all of it blockchain and crypto capital taking advantage of a regulatory framework built to welcome the industry outright, the only one of its kind in the country. Jackson, 430 miles northwest, runs a different, older Wyoming economy: wealth and angel investment concentrated around the resort town's own money, not the state's regulatory experiment. Underneath both sits the University of Wyoming in Laramie and Cheyenne LEADS, the private economic-development corporation that has spent decades recruiting the businesses actually filling out both stories.
