Ferrari's first electric vehicle, the Luce, co-designed by former Apple design chief Jony Ive, sold a custom model at auction for $40 million over the weekend, becoming the most expensive new car ever purchased at auction. This represents a 36x multiple over its original $1.1 million estimate. The Luce initially received poor reviews when unveiled in May, with comparisons to a Nissan Leaf, but has since become a commercial success with Ferrari hitting its annual sales target of the $626,000 model thanks to strong demand in China.
