About San Diego

San Diego is a Navy town on the Pacific, and its fleet concentration coexists with one of the country's densest biotech clusters, centered around Torrey Pines and institutions like the Salk Institute and Scripps Research. The San Diego Zoo's Frozen Zoo — a genetic preservation effort for endangered species — is a genuinely strange, genuinely real piece of the region's science identity that doesn't fit the "beach city" read at all.
