This edition covers the real Washington outside Seattle, Spokane, Richland, Walla Walla, and the Silicon Forest, which already have their own dedicated coverage. Bellingham, in Whatcom County, sits on the Canadian border and anchors Western Washington University alongside a real cross-border trade economy. Pullman, in Whitman County, is home to Washington State University, in the middle of the Palouse -- some of the most productive wheat-growing land in the country. None of these are Seattle or Spokane, and this edition doesn't treat them as smaller versions of either.
