This edition covers the real Michigan outside metro Detroit, which already has its own dedicated coverage. Lansing is the state capital and home to Michigan State University, a real land-grant research anchor in its own right. Grand Rapids is Michigan's second-largest city, built on a furniture-manufacturing legacy (the "Furniture City") and increasingly a real medical-device and healthcare-research hub. Kalamazoo carries its own pharmaceutical legacy -- the Upjohn Company, now part of Pfizer -- alongside Western Michigan University. Mount Pleasant (Isabella County) anchors Central Michigan University, and Berrien County covers Michigan's southwestern corner along Lake Michigan. None of these are Detroit, and this edition doesn't pretend they are.
